We try to hide
Our true selves from
The world around us.
Owning half a hundred masks,
But no true disguise.
Fearing all others,
Who won’t like us
Or love us;
Seeing nothing but judgment
Reflected in their eyes.
Now we become judges.
Condemning condemners
With words that had stung us;
Our only defense
Against slander and lies.
Our masks are now shattered,
Our true selves revealed.
We notice one thing
About our true persona.
We have come to wish…
It was just another mask.
